Maturation process - [2000-2006]

Synthetic peptides for the study of the protein precursor maturation process by enzymatic cleavage

Funded by Italian Ministry of Research (ex 40%, ex 60%)

Institut de Recherches Cliniques de Montreal, Canada; University “Federico II”, Napoli

Synthesis of peptides to use as substrate for processing enzymes in the study of the primary and secondary structural requirements that determine recognition and cleavage of precursors. The maturation processes usually produce active proteins from inactive precursors and it is a key step in a lot of important diseases (AIDS, hemorrhagic fevers, cancer, bacteria diseases, etc.)
