B-APP awarded second place at Start Cup Padova 2025

The project B-APP, Bariatric Application, developed by the Biomechanics group at CMBM, has won second place at the Start Cup Padova 2025, a competition promoted by the University of Padua to foster research, technological innovation, and the creation of new high-tech enterprises.

B-APP is an advanced digital platform that combines Digital Twin, Augmented Reality, and Artificial Intelligence to support surgeons in planning and simulating bariatric surgery, with a particular focus on Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG). By enabling 3D reconstruction of the patient’s stomach and predictive modeling of physiological responses, B-APP enhances surgical safety, personalization, and precision, paving the way toward a new era of digital and patient-specific medicine.

The team, composed by Ilaria Toniolo, Alice Berardo, Gianluca Mazzucco, Beatrice Pomaro, Chiara Giulia Fontanella, and Emanuele Luigi Carniel, brings together expertise in bioengineering, computational mechanics, biological tissue modeling, and technological innovation.
This recognition marks an important milestone, confirming the team’s ability to translate scientific research into tangible innovations that advance healthcare and improve patients’ quality of life. The project will now compete in the National Innovation Award – PNI 2025, to be held at Ferrara Expo on December 4-5, 2025.
